A 1975 work by George Morrison sold this spring at Revere Auctions for $562,500 with premium — a world record for the Minnesota painter and printmaker, and a marker for the regional modernist market.
Morrison, of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and University of Minnesota; his late-career mosaics and minimalist paintings have steadily outperformed estimate at major auction.
